I was curious enough to seek out the full story from Michelin, so I wrote and inquired about the demise of the Agilis tires. Here is their answer:

The Agilis 61 185R14C is being discontinued but currently we still have tires in our inventory.

A replacement tires called the Agilis 81 in size 185R14C is in the developmental stages. All the details of the replacement tire are not available yet.

If you have additional questions, please respond to this email or you may call us at 1-800-847-3435 (toll-free) between 8:30AM and 6:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday to allow one of our Consumer Relations Representatives to assist you.

At least they're not abandoning us yet!

Michelin says "No more Agilis tires". Period. So > Vanagon friends and Westy neighbors, back to the hunt for the Perfect Tire.
