There is info in the archives and also on some list members web sites about how to change the windshield yourself. if you can find it it's worth the read on the subject.

It's really not that hard to do. I've done several, mostly Bays, and they are a bit harder than Vanagons due to the curvature of their windshields. Vanagon windshields are fairly flat. The Rocky mountain Motor Works catalog used to (and may still) have the procedure, which is the method I've always used. Also, check out windshieldstogo.com, I bought a Bay windshield from them a couple of years ago for only $80.00. I had called around to local shops looking for a Bay windshield, and was quoted $225.00 to $290.00, with the $290.00 being Safelite Autoglass. I ordered from windshieldstogo.com and they called me the next day and told me that I could pick it up at their warehouse and save the shipping charges. When I got to their "warehouse", I was surprised to find it was in fact Safelite-the very same location I had called a couple of days earlier. BTW, it takes two people, although I've heard some say one person can do it, although I can't figure out how one person could do it alone. Jeff
