I used to use a dark grey opaque sheet that attaches to the roof just behind the front seats with velcro. When you would look in from the front windows you would just see blackness, much better than the VW front window curtains.

Dark tinted windows are also excellent for urban stealth camping. Having the curtains up is a giveaway that someone is probably sleeeping in there. You can get away without the curtains or make it harder to see that the curtains are up with the tinted windows.

A van with a hightop that you can sleep in like the adventurewagon (see: http://shagginwagen.com/forsale/) seems like the perfect stealth camping vehicle. The windows in the tops of these things are above eye level of most humans making it impossible to look in to see if anyone is sleeping unless you get on a ladder. You can keep all your junk in the lower floor and do all your cooking, etc down there but go upstairs for a peaceful nights rest without any indication that you're in there. If anyone has any practical experience they can share about stealth camping in a hightop id love to hear about it.

Thanks, Andrew Fox

I try to find a dark place to park that is unsigned, or at least signed by some unlikely-to-enforce authority, such as the railroad. Actually, the right of way along RR tracks is an excellent prospect. I try not to wear a place out, as locals will put up with a night, sometimes even a few days, but they don't want you as a fixture of the neighborhood. > Anyone else got any urban camping tips? > > The Trundler > '82 Westy > '87 Westy > > > > _______________________________________________ >
