Typically, detach the fuel line coming from the tank and drain the fuel filter into a clean container. If you see crud change the filter. Better, remove the filter, drain, then blow through it. Then blow through a new filter. Any restriction will be evident by the difference in pressure required.

Any noise other than a very smooth hum is evidence of a problem.
