Subject: repair of front collision damage
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed

--------------------------- List members: This morning I went over to the body shop that was fixing my 91 that hit a deer. The tech working on it has pulled out the main damage and then cut out the lower front panel and inner reinforcing bars. There appeared to be slight damage ahead of the heater assembly (and under the dash, of course.) The tech acted like he was not inclined to remove the dash , so I suggested that this might be a good time for me to put in a new heater core, considereing that the system was drained and the car apart anyway. so, I spent a couple of hours removing the dash and heater. Under/ ahead of the heater was concealed considerable damage. The intake and outlet ducts were both pushed back and deformed considerably, and I'm sure the air system would have made noise and leaked air had tis damage not been rectified. The tech was actually quite relieved that I had done this phase of the work and remarked that it would now be quite easy for him to dolly the parts back into shape. Looks like we're making progress! (I'd like to add how impressed I am at how strong these things are in front! I REALLY smacked that deer! Maybe moved the right lower front and radiator in about 6 inches!)
