Joel,

Ya, I understand the skepticism however lucky for me I have very "good"proof i.e. three or four work receipts from an authorized VW dealership showing my previous mileage when it happened (108,000 miles) and then receipts starting only a month later showing the new mileage 100,000 miles greater... Trust me when I say that I literally watched as the far left numeral 1 slowly turned to 2. That is why I have titled this subject heading "A Vanagon MYSTERY"... Its the strangest thing... To make matters worse as I wrote in my original email nothing appears wrong with the gears... Everyone I have taken it to also acknowledges that this car does not have the wear and tear of 200 plus thousand miles, and asks me whats up... If it would help the board help me with my problem by showing "proof" of my problem being a legitimate one maybe I can call VW with my VIN number have them fax or email me a record which will show that my mileage "mysteriously" went up 100,000 miles in less then a month?

I am so afraid of taking apart the odometer/speedommeter because I might break it. If I had a $300 plus a ferry ticket and the time I would bring it off the island I am on right now (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) and have VW do it... I am just hoping that someone on this list has seen or heard of the same mystery problem and can point me in the direction I need to go from here to bring my odometer back.

Thanks for your reply Joel, -Chris
