OK, I'm embarking on major surgery to replace the front brake discs on my '85 (with a new set), and am somewhat stumped by the replacement of the inner wheel bearings/spacers/seals. As usual, the Bentley manual shows some special VW tools (which I don't have) for pressing stuff into the new hubs. I searched the archives, but came up empty for tips on this phase of the job. Here are my questions: 1. Is it possible to get all this out/back in again without special tools? 2. Does anyone have a helpful link to a web page that describes it? 3. Are there any parts in here that should always be replaced? I know the peened nut on the outside needs to be replaced (and I have shiny new replacements for them). Thanks for any help, tips or encouragement Tim |
