Subject: Fix for non-working odometer
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

If your vanagon speedometer is working, but the odometer isn't, try removing the speedometer to the point you can see the gears (easy, no flat elecricals to fool with). See if the worm gear has slid down its shaft such that it is no longer in contact with the teeth of the drive gear. The worm gear slid down the shaft under the inexorable pressure of its work. Sliding it back worked just fine. The fix was so simple that I didn't bother putting anything to seize the gear to the shaft, thus avoiding the problem of getting glue somewhere it isn't supposed to be.

By the way, will someone remind me of the unsubscribe procedure? I have to go out of town for a week or so, and I will be connected through a 14.4 cell phone or a 56k dialup at best.

See you when I get back.

Jim
