Sounds like it's time to replace that switch. I had similar problems in my
'87 Fox, running the fan on high heated the switch up enough to melt the
switch plastic. Once the car was turned off, the plastic solidified,
locking the switch in position.

Probably culprit would be a weak connection inside the switch itself (weak
connection=higher resistance=heat).
