Though new to vanagons, I have spent twenty years in various positions in the automobile business including working with classic and custom vehicles. I always recommend that any modifications done be able to be put back to original configuration. It is your vehicle, and you can do what ever you want with it, but if later resale is of concern to you then anything that you do should either be reversible, or of such a utilitarian nature that the manufacturer should have done it in the first place. Better headlights with relays to handle the electrical load would be an example of this. We have an 87 Westy Syncro and I plan to do a number of modifications to it, most of them will be utilitarian in nature, designed to make the van more user friendly or last longer, like more interior lights, better headlights, improving the storage compartments, ceramic coated exhaust system, etc.
