I put my hand on it and felt the vibrations so I am positive it is coming from this tank. I could also smell gas but I saw no leak. What is going on? Are the lines getting clogeed or what? I wander if this has anything to do with my gas tank THUNK I have been experiencing.

Hi Jason,

Some months ago I experienced the THUNK you described, plus some gurgling, plus had the additional problem of fuel leaking out of the overflow tube that runs from the top of the filler neck to the tank to stop leakage when filling.

The last problem was the most serious, so I fixed it first. I found that the rubber overflow tube had perished internally and had blocked. Realising that the breather tubes were made of the same rubber material, I checked them. They too had perished, so I replaced them.

Result: No THUNK, no gurgling, and no leakage when I fill the tank - which is, alas, more often than I would like with unleaded gasoline costing US $ 5.38 per UK gallon (about US $4.70 per US gallon).

Try changing these tubes. Mine cost a total of about $15 plus the cost of some clips I already had.

Tony
