Matt, my man, you have but two from which to choose: Nokian Hakkapeliitta's or Vredesteins. Either one in the Vanagon-specific rating and size, of course, is money well spent. I have been using the Hakka's for more than a dozen years. Before that, it was the Vredesteins. The only reason I gave up on the Vredesteins was that a ready source for them dried up, but, they are now becoming more available once again. Ignore any other recommendations.

Something to consider: urban myth has it that state law in Finland mandates that proper winter tires must be mounted on cars from November until May. Hakkapeliitta's are made in Finland . . . do you see where I am headed with this?
