On my '75 it had a cracked gear and was intermittently sticking when it passed three tenths. It was a long time before I happened to be looking at it at the right moment to notice. Fixed it, and my calculated fuel economy improved notably. ;>

Anyway, unless you notice that it doesn't seem to show as much milage as you think it should on drives between towns, it's probably not that. I first noticed it when I made a trip from Houghton to Madison and noticed the odometer said the trip was something like 30 miles shorter than it should have been.
