Most times it works. There is always the risk of making it worse for the reasons you've stated. Thing is, my philosophy is, that if it's not working now, making it worse is impossible. If it's gotta come out then it's gotta come out. I just did one Wednesday for a client that's been previously hesitant about spending the money to have the fridge pulled. Well, after all was said and done, with fridge working better than ever and old Fiberglas insulation removed, clean up and Krown oiled the wall and floor behind the fridge to prevent further rusting that was becoming evident, he was a really "happy camper".
