i just use a deep-well socket. i disconnect the wire at the sensor connection, run the wire from the sensor up through the socket and out the square hole in the end of the socket, attach the socket to the sensor, and stuff all the sensor wire down into the socket. then attach handle and remove.

i have never had any problem getting to it on my 82, cant remember, but i may have removed the spark plug wire and pressure reg vacuum lines, but nothing serious. it can be siezed sometimes, but i still am able to remove with persuasion, similar to a spark plug. never broke anything.
