Have you tried the guys at The Bus Lab in Berkeley (Blake Street?)? Steve and Marco are listmembers. I've never used them myself but heard good reports about their work. I have been to their shop a few times and have met them during the SF Van-O-Ramas.

Incidentally, why don't you comeout to Pine Lake Day Camp in Stern Grove in San Francisco. You are just in time for the 3rd SF VOR on September 6. Several Vanagon Specialist usually show up to mingle.
