Eric,

The confusion lies in VW's description. They have something called the "Weekender package which they thron into the regular non-potop vans. It consist of the rear cushion over the rear deck, the rear folding bed/bench, and the 2-person middle seat which folds forward. After late 1987 that same package was modified slightly. The 2-person middle seat was supplanted with the rear facing jumpseats.

The name thn gets confusng because VW as called the Base Camper a Weekender. The base camper came in a variety of guises. It's usually a Westy with a poptop but w/o the fridge and stove set-up. Lot's of variations camein how the table and seat is set-up. The only consistne thing was the poptop and rear bed.

Then stir in some more confusion with the late 87 Wolfsburg Editions. They were essentially Base Campers with nice options like the removable 2-way fridge behind the front passenger. Then there was the Multivan series.... It's all marketing, my man.
