Subject: Question Re: AC compressor install in Tiico or inline-4
              conversions
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1"

Hi Gang,

I was frantically rushing my local VW shop who is doing the engine swap in my 87 GL to finish for Van-O-Rama on September 6th. Trouble is I ran into a snag with the AC compressor. I need AC in all my rides as we all well know the weather in SF is blistering hot. OK, maybe I just like it cold all the time.

Anyway, the problem is my shop has not done a conversion with AC before. Luckily I was fortunate enough to buy an AC/Alternator bracket from a fellow listee who deiced not to install those in his Tiico conversion. So the problem I have is the Vanagon AC compressor mounting holes will not line up with the Tiico bracket. It seems to require a smaller compressor. Otherwise, I have to ruin this beautifully custom cadmium plated bracket by altering it one more time. I can make it fit my welding a threaded piece a half inch higher and a half inch wider.

The question is what AC compressor does the Tiico have to fit this bracket? Everything else lines up. As for those who have inline-4's with AC how did you mount your AC compressor?

BTW, this is the 50° mounting position like they have in the stock diesel Vanagons.

Any insight you may have will help greatly. Either that or excellent or better welding skills and cadplating skills in the SF area.;)

Thanks, BenT
