Shawn, I agree with other posts that you might have another problem - the bucking, running rich etc. problem can have many causes. On my 88GL I had a leaking rear heater core - humidity caused the connector on the ECU to form a white deposit and faulty connection to malfunction. Even after fixing (actually removing) the heater core I do the following every couple of years: - Disconnect Battery - Disconnect connector on ECU - carefully wipe contacts with a contact cleaner (I use DeOxIt by Caig) - spray DeOxIt thoroughly to remove any particles on ECU and connector The contact plating seems to be bad on the ECU. While I am at it I also do the cleaning on the air mass sensor connector. in respect to the fuel tank: After an episode of 'bad fuel' (gas station insisted I was the only customer complaining...) I rinsed the tank with alcohol which dissolved lots of black deposits in the tank, which were not dissolved in gasoline. It you do this be sure you install and top up with gas soon - otherwise the moisture in the alcohol in the tank form rust spots quickly (hours). Did you get an indication of trouble from looking at gas from your fuel filter? Be sure to replace fuel hoses to the overflow tanks (unless they are recent) - Good luck Wolfgang At 11:55 PM 9/4/2003, Shawn Wright wrote: >Tonight I dropped the fuel tank on our '88 Westy, |
