We use a similar rear "universal webbing mount" bike rack and have used it to carry two adult bikes, a child's bike, and a bike trailer for extended trips on all sorts of roads. Never had a problem with the rear window (ours sits on the lower part of the window) or with denting the sheet metal on the hatch. I think it is much easier than a roof top rack as you don't need a ladder to get your bikes down!

But it doesn't matter...it will be obvious when you extend the rack (to the point where the arms that hold the bike are parallel to the ground.) Unfortunately, the upper part of the rack rests on the lower part of the back window and the lower part of the rack rests on the door a few inches above the back door lock.(Just as it did on our 4Runner...) This does not seem to be a problem-no broken window or dented/scratched metal. The good part is that if you fit the rack right (nice and tight,) you can leave it on when you take the bikes off and still be able to raise/lower the back door.
