Subject:      Coolant Feed/Return Pipes Repair

Well, I'm finally going to fix my coolant feed and return pipes, as the ends have corroded and broken. (they've been ghetto-rigged for the last year or so) Listmembers told me a while back that the pipes can be replaced w/ out removing the gas tank... But my mechanic says, while it's possible, it's not fun. And that there are hangers/zip ties above the tank that are hard to reach. Also, the 2 pipes cost about $250 from the dealer.

So, I know some have spliced in some pipe to replace the corroded flanges, which SEEMS like it would be much easier and definitely cheaper. From what I gather, I would:

a) cut off the end of the pipes b) insert a piece of hose over that c) insert a short piece of rigid pipe into that d) then insert that in to the existing hose, securing everything w/ hose clamps.

Any problems here? Is there a particular type of pipe I should use for the repair?
