It sounds like you have the same model we have (the "universal webbing mount" system,) that can fit a variety of car trunks and vans. If it is the same,(I forgot the model, but Little Joe sounds familiar...)then I seem to remember 13" as being the spread. But it doesn't matter...it will be obvious when you extend the rack (to the point where the arms that hold the bike are parallel to the ground.) Unfortunately, the upper part of the rack rests on the lower part of the back window and the lower part of the rack rests on the door a few inches above the back door lock.(Just as it did on our 4Runner...) This does not seem to be a problem-no broken window or dented/scratched metal. The good part is that if you fit the rack right (nice and tight,) you can leave it on when you take the bikes off and still be able to raise/lower the back door. We just took two adult bikes and a child's bike on our rack on a camping trip to San Diego last weekend. Held the bikes great. If anyone needs a picture of what I'm talking about then p-mail me.
