Ken, my man, I must admit that I certainly have not had my nose into every Digifant cooling system ever made, but the ones I have seen ('86-'90) do not "work like this". It seems you have forgotten about the addition of the engine bay coolant loop which was added in '86.

So, here we have a system which was configured, after some deliberation, by some guys (let's call them engineers) to operate a certain way. Now, along comes someone who modifies it in an act of desperation with no regard for the consequences and you celebrate him? Why? If you really think that an engineer who, among other things, has study engineering economics will specify a component which is not necessary, then you have never met an engineer.

Perhaps the H-fitting is not as efficient as the engine bay coolant loop in bleeding entrained air from the coolant, but I would hardly call it superfluous. Without it, the entrained air has little opportunity of venting to atmosphere. I'm talking about the minute air bubbles which form whenever the engine is operated, not an air pocket which might be present when the system is being filled.

Once, I went to look at a used Volvo. It had a Bosch K system on it which the dealer's mechanic could not get right. His solution was to eliminate everything he didn't recognize. He shit-canned the complete idle air bypass circuit then cranked in a bunch of turns on the throttle plate stop screw. Oh, he got the car running sure enough and once it warmed it held a nice steady idle . . . at 2K.

While ignorance is putting you into a state of bliss it will also be biting you in the ass.

George
