We use a similar rear "universal webbing mount" bike rack and have used it to carry two adult bikes, a child's bike, and a bike trailer for extended trips on all sorts of roads.  Never had a problem with the rear window (ours sits on the lower part of the window) or with denting the sheet metal on the hatch.  I think it is much easier than a roof top rack as you don't need a ladder to get your bikes down!

The good part is that if you fit the rack right (nice and tight,) you can leave it on when you take the bikes off and still be able to raise/lower the back door.  We just took two adult bikes and a child's bike on our rack on a camping trip to San Diego last weekend.  Held the bikes great.  If anyo
