Did it fail after half a year? I was hoping I could make this a permaanent, or at least semi-permanent repair...

Well, I don't have a lift, so is it easier to try and squeeze the pipes in or remove the tank? I think maybe the older vans might be different (not sure), but the newer pipes are some type of plastic, w/ metal reinforcement at the ends. So they are a little bit flexible.
