The "spring wires" are thread through the bottom of the curtains.

When bundled up with the straps, they look fine I think, but then I've never seen them any other way. I don't worry much about the appearance, since the wires help to keep them from flapping in the wind, and we drive mostly with the windows down (especially this summer... 37C *again* today, 2 months with no significant rainfall)

Ours are ok so far, but I've lost a few of the upper plastic hooks on the sliding door curtain. I imagine a fabric store should have a comparable snap.
