IMHO, this isn't a case of bad design as much as something that was never designed to be taken apart and the put back together again.

I had no problem removing the fabric and then cutting an access hole through the top of the foam to get to the bolt. Getting it all back together wasn't fun, but serves me right for taking the adjuster out in the first place!

there was one benefit to the exercise, however. I tossed the fabric in the wash and soaked/cleaned the foam while everything was apart. that's the only way I've been able to get those stupid gray armrests anywhere near clean!
