The higher wattage bulbs produce enough heat that it will melt the plastic housing and the lense. BTDT!!!!

However, I am running the 50 watt bulb in my Vanagon as a backup light. It really works!!!! You can get away with it as long as you don't leave the vehicle in reverse too long, in which case the light will do its thing to the plastic.
