The fuel injection system with it's computer and various sensors will automatically adjust fuel mixture to accomodate the change in air density resulting from the change in altitude. Carburetors are a bit more limited, and if the limited mixture adjustments available don't do the trick, changing the jets in the carburetor is the only other solution, short of turbocharging the engine.

I drove from Birmingham, AL which is only a few hundred feet above sea level, to Los Alamos, and Taos, New Mexico, and spent a year there. Elevations over 7,500 feet and the old 88 GL had not a single problem related to fuel mixture and power. It was a good year, until the return trip, when the engine blew in Clinton, OK, of all places. But that is another story.
