Subject: Fuel pump noise after gas tank seal fix
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Hi,

A week or so ago, someone asked the list why they had a noisy fuel pump after replacing fuel tank seals and such. Well, I found out why.

I had taken my tank to the car wash for a thorough cleaning and had thought I did a pretty good job of it. The problem was I must not have made sure that ALL the crud was out of there.

My new pump got noisier and noisier (quickly) - so I pulled the line coming from the tank thinking I had a clogged fuel filter. I found no gas in the line!

Of course, when I took it out <again> and wash it out - more crud came out of the tank. This time I made sure that both the primary and return outlets flowed well.

Hopefully I am done taking the tank out, though after about 5 or so times doing it, I'm pretty good at it. The bummer part is having to buy a new pump (the new one is now very loud).

Conrad
