Hi folks, Back on the last exhaust thread folks were complaining about the tailpipe from the bus depot rusting out on them even when painted Well it's been a couple months, an interval I was assured would show me the error of my ways, and I fear I am still persisting in my vile habits and my exhaust is still obstinately black. I'm not sure what the rest of you did, but I went over the exhaust a couple times with naphtha ('bout 2 bucks a can 'round here give or take I think I used almost a 10th of it) to get the thick coating of oil off the exhaust and the tailpipe, then I used 'bout 1/2 to 2/3rds a can of high temp spray paint ('bout 5 bucks for the can) gave it 'bout 3 or 4 coats over the course of a day, I did find a spot I had to re naphtha cuz the paint would stick but other then that not a lot of effort to it. Totals are pretty easy around 120-130 including shipping for the exhaust and pipe from Ron + 15 min work and 4 bucks in material vs 180 for the exhaust locally, possibly the same exhaust, or something hideous from stebro (I never did get a firm price on that) and 20 bucks if I recall for the special VW pipe. The other stuff is doubtless incredibly cool and neat and stuff, but this has held up to gritty mountain roads, splashing through a few streams and the usual wear and tear just fine. If it rusts, I'll probably brush it down touch it up using the same can of paint. Fits my budget, don't' know 'bout you folks.
