The round T3 lights are not the same as the MK-II Golf. Maybe the same as
the MK-I Golf. Same nice beam pattern, but physically they are not
interchangeable. The other nice thing about the round light (I think they
look good!) is if you break one, it is easier on the pocket book!

Since i live in Sweden and has been able to compare different lights IŽll
recommend that you get rid if those nice looking square headligts too, the
difference with the rounded lights are well worth the ugliness ;-)
They are the same as on the Golf/Rabbit pre -92 and with a pair of good
quality 60/55 W H4 halogen lightbulbs youŽll have really good light !
Then you could improve it even more with a upgrade relay and some thick
wires

In part, i will agree with this, Sam. Simply adding
brighter lights can cause more problems for other
people than it helps yourself.
However...
U.S. spec lights are pretty much downright lame. The
big thing you missed in your point was quality of
light dispersion. Check out a set of european spec
headlights (e-code). Not only are they brighter, but
they have a better dispersion. A sharp cutoff so you
don't blind others, and it has an upsweep on the left
side to illuminate elevated road signs.
A lot better and more thoughtful than a puddle of
yellow light not too far ahead of the nose of the
van...
I absolutely concur that one should think about the
consequences of one's modifications on other drivers,
though.
