My '90 Vanagon has a 1.8 RV Digifant2-injected engine transplant. I use it for work, and it always weighs close to 4200 lbs. with built-in and stored equipment. I've done two things to the engine that might be considered mods: 1) I've increaed AFM spring tension two notches and 2) I've advanced valve timing one belt tooth or about 8.5°. Timing is stock, air supply is from the Jetta it originated from, new oxygen sensor, stock four into one exhaust manifold with Vanagon diesel muffler. The trans is the '90 ACW that came with it, (I'd like to have the old 1.26 third gear of the pre-'86s), and it has Kirkland 195/75-14 tires. I get 24-25.5 mpg with highway driving...every fillup (haven't had an appreciable head wind yet to test).
