Quite true in my experience too. I have seen many beach residing Vanagons with bad rust bubbling up on the bottom edge of any or all of the windows. I removed the windshield on my 87 Syncro to work on this rust only to find that the hidden area was rusted to the point where I could poke 4 fingers of my hand through. I cut part of the nose off of a junker and replaced the whole part between the seams below the windshield and above the grill. 2 years later the part at the lower corners of the windshield is pretty bad too and I wish I had done a bigger piece.
