Subject: lifter noise update
Content-Type: text/html

<html><div style='background-color:'><DIV>hey all,</DIV> <DIV>got to the source of the noise i have been experiencing with the 87 that has not run since april.&nbsp; i came to the conclusion that it is the h2o pump.&nbsp; through the use of a highly suffisticated tool, on top of my tremondous vw mechanical experience and expertise, i found the culprit.&nbsp; basically i started by pulling the plug wires while engine was running to see if noise subsided lightly, it did not.&nbsp; compression is good on all four 120 +-.&nbsp; then i pulled out my highly sufisticated and very expensive tool designed just for this purpose, i don't even think you can by them in america, a extra extra long flat head screw driver!&nbsp; i used it to simulate a stethsocope (I have no idea how to spell that) and placed around various parts of the engine to have a listen.&nbsp; when i got to the h2o pump the noise was loud and clear (turn yer head and cough).&nbsp; so i began the preocedure of removing the pump.&nbsp; this where i stripped one of the hex bolts, still dealing with that.&nbsp; i was able to get the pump out most way to examine, sure enough, inside wheel corroded and pretty loose, when spun by hand you can feel it rubbing and grinding no wonder it made the noise it was making.&nbsp; so get that off.&nbsp; May as well flush the system while i am at it.&nbsp; other things i am going to do while at it are, replace complete exhaust, oil cooler seal and replace old looking coolant lines.&nbsp; that will keep me busy for a while.&nbsp; exhaust bolts look pretty nasty!&nbsp; that will be fun!</DIV> <DIV>jason</DIV> <DIV>90gl</DIV> <DIV>87 syncro westy project</DIV></div><br clear=all><hr> <a href="http://g.msn.com/8HMCENUS/2737??PS=">Compare Cable, DSL or Satellite plans: As low as $29.95. </a> </html>
