Subject: Michelin LTX vs. Yokohama Y370
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Yes, I hate to bring up that four letter word again (I've searched the archives...) but upon rotating my tires, I found one of my older Yoko 370 tires on the rear has a badly broken belt, giving it about a 3/4" bulge in the tread... not good. This is from the pair I bought 7 years ago, so it has ~50k kms on it. (30k miles). The tread is pretty much shot, which surprises me, but I think most of it was chewn off in large chunks, rather than worn off, because of the number of gravel roads I drive. I bought a new pair of 370s in the spring, but am now wondering if I should try the Michelin LTX M/S that many people like so much. While I love the load carrying ability of the Yokos, I'm not so impressed with the lifespan, and the fact that one is now toast completely, when I could probably get another year out of it otherwise. How do the LTXs hold up with a loaded van on rough roads? By loaded, I mean 5500-6000+ lbs. I'm concerned that this is close to the rating (1435lbs vs 1710lbs for the Yokos) of the LTXs, where the Yokos have some margin left. How is the off-road traction of the LTX? Has anyone owned both tires that could give a quick comparison?
