I bought one a couple years ago. To replace one without removing the head, it was not too bad, but at $20 each, I'd hate to do mane more!

Yes and no. You cannot change them with original ones because they are like the old type 1 pushrod tubes. You might be able to replace them with collapsible tubes if someone makes them, but I have not seen any.
