Subject: ATF Capacity in replaced trans (90 GL automatic)?
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I had some trouble this weekend due to incorrect/misleading info in the Bentley manual. I spent saturday and sunday replacing the auto trans in my '90 and getting it ready to roll. In the section on removing and replacing the trans, Bentley lists the ATF refill capacity at 2.6 quarts, which seemed low to me. I filled it to that level and, predictably, the trans slipped a bit during the test run. I then referenced the appendix, which lists the capacity at 3.2 quarts! I refilled to that level, and the trans no longer slips, but the fluid still is not registering on the dipstick. I'm assuming the Bentley is not accounting for the torque convertor refill. Any idea how much more I need to add? I don't want to overfill it, but I don't want to burn it up, either! I'm not driving it until I get the correct refill level. Any insight would be much appreciated.
