Looks to me like that's not a voltage amplifier, but a pre-made kit to do what is outlined in the page I quoted above. Only difference is you pay $16.75 (incl. shipping etc) instead of buying a simple relay, an inline fuse and few bits of wire and the required connectors. I've done this using a bog-standard 30amp rated relay - cost me about UKP 4.50 in total.

Please do. If you want to be able to start the Vanagon from the engine compartment so save walking to the front all the time, you could even fit a flick switch in parallel with the relay to make life easier.
