Take it off in one piece - it's pretty easy. It's held on with two 13mm nuts. You'll also need to loosen the dipstick holder from the pipe.

I need to remove the oil filler tube to gain access for the dreaded drilling of the alternator mounting bracket. The top half is plastic. Can this slide off or do I have to unbolt the whole assembly at the block.

Though it wiggles some I am hesitant for fear of breaking it and having to buy another.

The Bentley doesn't offer much guidance on this.
