Well, it's late friday night here in Vienna, VA (western suburb of DC) and I've been without electricity for 26 hours now (aftermath of Hurricane Isabel). Should have gotten one of those little Honda generators, but somehow never got around to it during the main summer period.... Despite the 110 foot tall trees in the backyard (50-60 of 'em), nothing happened here of any substantial note (yeah a whole lot of leaves, twigs and a few larger branches are on the grass, but nothing bigger and an inch in diameter and none of those anywhere close my Vanagons.) I understand my WV place (which effectively got the eye of the much degraded hurricane) weathered things even better (mainly cause early thunderstorms this year were more severe.) I finished the book I was reading last night (by flashlight)...none of the local bookstores were open to get something new (closed by the fire marshals, for lack of water near as I can gather.) So I'm sitting in the dark, working on a laptop (until it's battery runs down). The UPSes gave up the ghost many hours ago. Ah the joys of the modern age. We now return you to your regular Vanagon content. |
