Andy,

The Syncro was not available till MY '86, and did not come with a 1.9l engine. Perhaps you are trying to install the sensor in the wrong place or in the wrong way or . . .

The T2 Sensor should be located on the thermostat housing against the firewall on the driver's side. If not there, someone has pulled a switcheroo on your engine/coolant system. You need to describe what you have.

Well, I picked up a temp 2 sensor for my thought to be 86 (so the title says), but it didn't fit, called auto store checked door jam and it turns out my syncro was made in 7/85. Can't go wrong with the door jam. Hopefully the sensor will cure my sputtering problem, grounds are clean and I'm putting brand new cap/rotor and wires in just to be 100% sure.
