I noticed that the last time the phone guy came around to fix a problem with an exterior wiring mess on the house, he looked at the crimp connectors and said "whoa, those are the old style. I'm going to replace them with these." He pulled out a pocketful of crimp connectors filled with a nonconductive protective gel. Not long after that I was getting some wire fitting for where brother-in-law cut underground romex with a shovel, I noticed the outdoor underground wirenuts were filled with the same thing,

If you can't find a tube of this stuff at home depot, maybe buy a pack of the big underground waterproof wirenuts and get the goop out of there. I'm planning to. It looked very clean, and much longer-lasting than vaseline.
