In a message dated 9/17/2003 9:13:10 AM Pacific Daylight Time, felder@KNOLOGY.NET writes: I noticed that the last time the phone guy came around to fix a problem with an exterior wiring mess on the house, he looked at the crimp connectors and said "whoa, those are the old style. I'm going to replace them with these." He pulled out a pocketful of crimp connectors filled with a nonconductive protective gel. Not long after that I was getting some wire fitting for where brother-in-law cut underground romex with a shovel, I noticed the outdoor underground wirenuts were filled with the same thing, BEANS, that's what we used to call them. For temporary use only. Notorious for making a mess when removed. Works great even under a puddle of water. Those phone company guys are not supposed to use them anymore but frequently do.

Just got reminded of a former life.
