A typical issue with all WasserBoxers, with the archives full of the correct solutions and a bunch of other junk.

Three things to verify:

1) Verify you have the factory approved filter. Mahle/Mann/VW, always a black housing. 2) Verify the weight of oil is correct for conditions. 3) Ignore tappet noises after sitting for several days if they quiet down after up to 20 minutes driving. A ten mile drive resolves this lifter drain down issue 90% of the time.

Half the time a noisy WasserBoxer comes to me, a change back to correct oil weight and/or factory filter instantly resolves the complaint.

I am in the middle of servicing a WasserBoxer motor that came in very noisy, tappets and more. This is with all three above items verified. Will report on all the steps taken to improve and correct these motor noise issues as I will finish with it later today.
