The cheapest and BEST course is to have a local machine shop check out the head while it is off. In my experience in ... MGB, Ford 9N, Ford 8N, multiple Rabbits (both gas and diesel), multiple Jettas (both gas and diesel), multiple Vanagons... all have been worth the money paid to the machinist in peace of mind and reassurance in either owning/using or selling the vehicle. That is my opinion and if/when you are experienced, it will be yours, too. Head welding by a professional is almost always a good alternative to new purchases... ask me how I know. YMMV. -- Stephen* Chillicothe Ohio 1991 Caravelle Hans sold today to son #1 1987 Westy Franz 1984 Westy Fritz new radiator today! 1991 Jetta GL diesel daily driver 1990 Jetta GL (twin sons') 1982 Rabbit PU diesel 1974 MGB My first car...yep, I kept it 1993 S-10 I hate it BUT * All rights reserved, no reproduction without permission. |
