I had been noticing some squeakiness and resistance when shifting. The noise was coming from the plastic joint under the rubber boot at the base of the shifter. I lifted the boot and greased the area with light grease. I also greased the 2 "sliding" points where the shaft goes back to the transmission, and sprayed the linkage inside the metal protector up under the spare tire carrier area. The difference in shifting is remarkable. Almost feels floppy compared to how stiff it was. Bob Stevens '87 Syncro Westy http://groups.msn.com/BobsPhotoShare http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tiico

After I've been driving for a while I notice an increased stiffness in trying to shift into third gear. What could be causing this? > Donna, 1987 & 1990 Vanagons |
