Tim, What type of kayaks are you trying to put on top of your Westy? I am 6'2" and have not figured out how I could ever get our fiberglass tandem sea kayaks on top of our 87 Westy Syncro w/o a ladder and/or hoist. Then again when we take the boats out we are going where the Westy can't and would leave it home, the Jeep is much easier(lower) to put boats on. I have thought about a trailer, but would have to build it myself as shipping the pre-made kits to Alaska is expensive. Besides I would probably want to custom build one with personalized options and out of Aluminum for the weight savings. Vanagons are underpowered enough with out the weight of a trailer and gear. Mark in AK 87 Westy Syncro Hey all, I use the gutter mounts adapters in the rear attached to the bolts for the hinges for the pop-top, and use the tall towers up front. and the tall towers in the front. Lemme know if you need more info. ...JMM Justin M. Mayrand 1980 Westy "SuperVan"
