I'm learning new things!

First, the ABA uses a one time use s-t-r-e-t-c-h bolt to fasten the crankshaft timing belt gear. There is a warning in the G-J Bentley not to re-use it. Well, I had removed the gear to change the oil seal and re-used the bolt.

I never had a problem with the 1.8 engine I used to have -the 1.8 bolt is reusable. tkaing the VW machine shop's word .

Well- if you want to laugh, I made this mistake on the flywheel end also. I re-used the flywheel fasteners and this is why they got loose, or else I forgot to torque them down good.

it was a month long project and with all the interuptions it's likely I did'nt torque them down hard. I don't remember doing it.

Well, I'm only three bolts away from starting the engine. The flywheel and front gear are torqued down good with locktite. I put the transmission back in today, servicing the CV axles too.

Did you know that I will never again re-use used stretch bolts?

I hope I'm OK . The oil looked good.
