Is this a subwoofer amp? GLIs have capacitors internally, to couple the audio while blocking DC. They won't work well below a certain cutoff frequency.

Let me know if it works. I suspect the problem is the ground potential is different at your radio than it is at your amp, forcing current to flow through the shields of your audio cables. The steel van body isn't the greatest conductor, and the stock ground points under the dash (which I assume your radio is connected to) are notoriously poor.
